c'est sûrement le même "BUG" qui a mangé le début de "Sandford volé" également!

Well….. I don't know about 'an awful lot'….. 1914 Delage R4 (under restoration), 1919 Le Zebre (new to my motor house), 1921 Carteret, 1921 Amilcar CC (under restoration), 1924 Buchet (x 2 … to restore), 1927 Donnet Type K (the 2.5 litre six cylinder), 1929 Hotchkiss AM2, 1930 Austin Seven (owned since 1964…. now needs restoring!)……. and a 2CV …. I seem to have a French theme here!.
I would post photos if I could remember how !

Il me semble avoir un thème français ici !.
Je voudrais publier des photos si je pouvais me souvenir comment!

Donc je maintiens 'an awful lot' mais tu peux prendre cela comme un compliment naturellement! Cette gourmandise est très bien vue ici!
As-tu déjà des images sur un site? Nous sommes aussi très gourmands d'images. Nous pouvons t'aider à les publier ici dans ce cas. Sur Servimg.com il faut utiliser l'adresse "lien direct" mais tout autre hébergeur fait l'affaire.
Tiens-nous au courant and don't hesitate to ask for help.

Yes it looks like a Le Zebre front axle……. Type D, circa 1919-21…… the same as my car. The axle on my car is 1060 long, the front spring centres are at 530.
I have some photographs but despite trying have not been able to post them on here…. I use a MAC computer which may be the problem?

en française……et pardon mon française!…...Oui, il ressemble à un essieu avant Le Zebre ....... Type D, circa 1919-1921 ...... la même que ma voiture. L'essieu sur ma voiture est longue 1060, les centres de ressorts avant sont à 530.
Je dois quelques photos, mais malgré les tentatives ai pas été capable de les poster ici .... Je utilise un ordinateur MAC qui peut être le problème?

Is that Le Zèbre perhaps WP-2959?
I almost bought that car, and when I saw your post here saying something about a 1919 Le Zèbre's gearbox, I though "Hmmm, that sounds (literally ) like the car I drove about six weeks ago"

If it is WP-2959, the Admin can put us in touch. I've researched a large part of its history, and have been in contact with an engineering company regarding the noisy gears.

Ah…… good to 'speak' to you! Yes indeed I have bought WP-2959 !  I knew the car back in the 1980s when it was owned by my friend John Talbot-Cooper, and the car had all that work done by Mr. Thetford only about 3 kilometres from where I live…… I know the gears are supposed to be noisy, but sad to say I cannot get the car running, so I have been in contact with the man selling the car. It looks as if the magneto has died, although I also think the compressions are very weak. The man who sold it to me has agreed to pay for any work that needs to be done. I have several contacts for gear cutting, indeed I had a set made for my 1927 Donnet K type…. Neve Engineering …..excellent job.
Are you related to the famous Mr Mahey who owned that wonderful collection in Gent?…… we were in Belgium last year on a Delage Rally and I met a Mr Mahey (the son of the original collector) who now looks after the collection in the new museum.

Ah ...... bon de «parler» à vous! Oui en effet, je l'ai acheté WP-2959! Je savais que la voiture dans les années 1980 quand il a été possédé par mon ami John Talbot-Cooper, et la voiture avait tout ce travail accompli par M. Thetford seulement 3 kilomètres de là où je vis ...... Je sais que les engins sont censés être bruyant, mais triste de dire que je ne peux pas obtenir la voiture en marche, donc je suis en contact avec l'homme qui vend la voiture. Il semble que si le magnéto est mort, bien que je pense aussi que les compressions sont très faibles. L'homme qui me l'a vendu a accepté de payer pour un travail qui doit être fait. Je avoir plusieurs contacts pour tailler les engrenages, en effet, je devais un ensemble fait pour mon 1927 Type Donnet K .... Neve génie ... ..excellent emploi.
Êtes-vous parent du célèbre M. Mahey qui possédait cette merveilleuse collection à Gent? ...... Nous étions en Belgique l'an dernier sur un rallye Delage et je rencontré un M. Mahey (le fils du collecteur d'origine) qui occupe maintenant la collection dans le nouveau musée.

I have been in contact with John Talbot-Cooper regarding WP-2959, please give him my regards when you see him. Not sure he'll be happy to hear my name though, as I must have tired him with my endless questions!  

I have also been in contact with Crispin Thetford, who had already made an estimate of the cost to cut some new gears and recommission the gearbox, based on which I made my final offer to Geoff Crabtree. I suppose you bought it directly from Geoff? So if my information is correct, you are involved in the VSCC's Light Car and Edwardian Section? Must be fascinating!

I went for a test drive somewhere mid-March. The engine ran very (very!) smoothly, it ticked over very nicely, so the magneto worked perfectly at that time. When I saw the car and heard the engine, I was almost certain to buy it. Then we went for a test drive, which was less conclusive. The gearbox was very noisy and the driving position made it very difficult to handle the car (or maybe my legs are too long). I also found it quite confusing that the hand brake actions the regular brakes whereas the foot brake stops the transmission.

You're probably right about the compression: we didn't manage to exceed 30 mph, whereas adverts mentioned 40 mph and John even spoke of 45 mph back in the days where he owned it.

In March, I've spent a lot of time researching this car's history. Via the French license plate, I've managed to trace it back to a previous French license plate. I stopped my research when the car was sold    If you want, I'll send you what I've found. My research has also shown that there's an error on the dealer plaque on the dashboard. The car is a D8 series, not a D20. If you want to have a correct Le Zèbre chassis number plaque made, these people can make it for 125 EUR: http://plaques.anciennes.free.fr/. Just send an email to heures(at)free(dot)fr with a copy of the V5C (but maybe have it corrected first from D20 to D8) and the request to have a Le Zèbre plaque made.

We know Ivan Mahy very well, not because we're related (you have to go back 7 or 8 generations to find the "missing link" between our families) but because we share the same passion. My father is also involved in the Mahymobiles museum, so maybe you'll run into him if you visit the museum again.

Happy to see the Le Zèbre has found a good home, there's still a small part of me that regrets that it was sold.

Vend Zèbre 4 cylindres camionnette, voiturs à restaurer, à voir sur place

Une petite nouvelle dans le garage, une Le Zèbre type C. Je l’ai acheté dans un musée il faut donc complètement le vérifier et le remettre en route. Les pneus sont beaucoup trop gros ce sont des 715/115 confort mais de toutes façons ils sont à remplacer. Reste à décider si je mets des talons 715/115 ou si je cherche des jantes en 700/80 plus conformes à l’origine.

Je recherche un manuel d’entretien original ou copie, d’apres le livre de Philippe Schram, cela existe. Ça serait utile car le moteur 4 cylindres est assez particulier notamment au niveau du graissage et de la distribution
Il me manque également quelques bricoles donc si vous connaissez des pièces…
